‘Mike Pence Is In Fear For His Life’: Joe Scarborough Blames Trump For People Putting Former Vice President ‘On Their Hit Lists’
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough discussed on Wednesday’s broadcast of “Morning Joe” what he sees as the “movement” that inspired people to try to kill former Vice President Mike Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol.
The discussion began with co-host Willie Geist talking about the social media activity of Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, an ardent supporter of Trump, which involved threatening material against other members of Congress. (RELATED: Marjorie Greene Files Articles Of Impeachment Against Biden)
“Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who has made headlines for promoting QAnon conspiracy theories, is facing new scrutiny over a series of Facebook posts where she repeatedly, as Joe said, endorsed violence against Democratic leaders. CNN reviewed hundreds of her Facebook posts and comments from 2018 and 2019, before she was elected to Congress,” Geist said. “In one post from January 2019, Greene liked a comment that said, quote, a bullet to the head would be quicker to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”
Greene has been criticized for her association with conspiracy theories since before being elected to Congress. In a Tuesday post on Twitter she did not deny that she liked any controversial posts, like the one about Pelosi, but said that she’s had “teams of people” running her social media accounts and “many posts have been liked.”
Geist went on to describe more of Greene’s social media activity and noted that voters decided to vote her in anyway, but pointed out that “we didn’t, though, know about these specific posts.”
“She ran an ad when she was running for office holding an AR-15 and having pictures of members of Congress who, of course, were women of color, boy that’s a shock, where she said she was going after them,” Scarborough said. “We don’t bring this up to bring her up because I don’t want to bring up people in, you know, that are back benchers. We bring it up to tell those lugheads in the United States Senate that think this is just another Trump fight, that you have people in your midst that have called for the assassination of members of Congress.”
Scarborough referenced Trump’s upcoming Senate impeachment trial, which was brought on after he was impeached on Jan. 13 for allegedly inciting the mob that stormed the Capitol.
Some members of Congress have expressed that they didn’t feel safe sheltering around other members of Congress during the storming of the Capitol, notably New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who said that some of her colleagues were “frankly, white supremacist.”
“We’re now talking about a movement and a president that inspired people to come to Capitol Hill to try to kill, their words not mine, the Vice President of the United States and the Speaker of the House. And guess what, Mike Pence is now in Indiana because of Donald Trump, trying to lay low because there are people now who have Mike Pence on their hit lists because of Donald Trump,” Scarborough said.
“Not because of Don Lemon. Not because of Rachel Maddow. Not because of Jake Tapper. Not because of The New York Times editorial page. Not because of The Washington Post…..Mike Pence is in fear for his life because of Donald J. Trump.”
