Golf legend Jack Nicklaus weighed in on Tiger Woods’ comment about President Donald Trump and said he agreed with him that “you have to respect the office.”

“I thought Tiger [Woods] handled it very well. I think no matter who’s president, whether it was Barack Obama or Donald Trump, I think you respect the office,” the 78-year-old retired professional golfer shared Wednesday during his appearance on “Fox and Friends.” (RELATED: Donald Trump Tees It Up With Tiger Woods And Dustin Johnson)

The comments came after Nickalus was asked about Woods’ comment over the weekend about his “friendly relationship” with Trump.

“Well, I’ve known Donald for a number of years,” Woods shared. “We’ve played golf together and you know we’ve had dinner together. And so yeah, I’ve known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency.”

“Well, he’s the President of the United States. You have to respect the office,” he added at the end of a tournament in New Jersey. “And no matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike the personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

A short time later, the president responded to the comment, while slamming the “fake news media.”

“The Fake News Media worked hard to get Tiger Woods to say something that he didn’t want to say. Tiger wouldn’t play the game – he is very smart. More importantly, he is playing great golf again,” Trump tweeted.
