Tina Smith, the Democrat who is poised to take over resigning Sen. Al Franken’s seat, served as the public policy vice president at Planned Parenthood for Minnesota and the Dakotas from 2003 to 2006.

“The choice of Ms. Smith is particularly egregious to Minnesota’s pro-life citizens, who will have no representation in the Senate,” said Minnesota Citizens for Life President Leo LaLonde, according to LifeSiteNews. “Most Minnesotans are pro-life. They support greater protection for unborn human beings. Minnesotans need someone who will fight for justice for the most vulnerable among us, the unborn.”

Smith, the current Minnesota lieutenant governor, will be appointed to Franken’s seat by Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton, according to Politico. Franken is set to make a statement Thursday, following a slew of resignation calls from his Senate colleagues. (RELATED: Report: Female Lieutenant Governor Will Replace Franken If He Resigns).

Minnesota taxpayers reimbursed Planned Parenthood roughly $458,600 for performing nearly 2,000 abortions on low-income women, and the abortion giant received close to $13 million in government grants from 2003 to 2005 while Smith worked at the abortion company, according to LifeSite.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to begin an investigation of Planned Parenthood and its illegal sale of aborted tissue for profit, as well as is abortion methods. Forty-six percent of voters believe that the DOJ should investigate how Planned Parenthood handles fetal tissue from aborted babies, while 38 percent disagree, according to its survey of 1,000 likely voters, conducted Dec. 10 and 11.
