Four People Wounded In Shootings Within One Minute In DC

Authorities are on the hunt for at least one gunman after four people were wounded in two separate shootings Sunday within one minute of each other in Washington, D.C.

Two men and two women suffered gunshot wounds in separate but potentially related incidents. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting at 12:03 p.m. on Cloud Street near Grant Park. Officers found a 23-year-old with a gunshot wound to the left thigh, but conscious and breathing, reports WJLA.

Police responded to reports of another shooting at 12:04 p.m. on 6th and M Street, near Mt. Vernon Square. Two men and a woman were found with gunshot wounds but police said all the victims were conscious and breathing. Authorities have not released an update on the status of the victims. Authorities are not sure if the shootings are related. Police said their suspect is a black man with dreadlocks wearing a brightly colored shirt.

Police are investigating a shooting that left one dead Saturday night in northeast D.C.. The fatal shooting brings the homicide count in D.C. to 77.

While less than the 87 homicides recorded in the District at the same time last year, the rate is still historically high. There were a total of 105 homicides in 2014. The District experienced a staggering 54 percent spike in the murder rate in 2015, the highest rate in eight years. The surge in homicides continues in 2016, tracking closely with last year’s alarming statistics.
